Brandeis Big Siblings partners with Jewish Big Brother Big Sister (JBBBS) to match Brandeis University students in a one-on-one mentoring relationship with youth in the Waltham area. Matches can share meals, play games, do homework, talk, and do other social activities. The relationship focuses on trust, stability, working together, and having fun.
We have three separate programs, all of which are non-denominational:
The first program is a Campus-Based Program, where the Littles come to the Brandeis University campus and meet with their Big Sibling for two hours, twice a month.
The second program is a Lunch-Time Program at Stanley Elementary School, where the Brandeis volunteers go to their Little's school and meet with them during their lunch time. The Brandeis volunteers go to the Little's school every week for one hour.
The third program is a Lunch-Time Program at Plympton Elementary School. This program operates identically to the program at Stanley. Brandeis volunteers go to their Little's school and meet with them during their lunch time. The Brandeis volunteers go to the Little's school every week for one hour.
Population Served: We serve youth ages 6-17 in the Waltham area.
Community Partners: We partner with Jewish Big Brother Big Sister. We also currently partner with the Stanley Elementary School and the Plympton Elementary School in Waltham.
Transportation: For the Stanley Lunch-Time Program, Brandeis University students walk to the Stanley. For the Plympton Lunch-Time Program, Brandeis University students provide their own transportation to Plympton. For the Campus-Based Program, the Little will be dropped off at the Brandeis campus.
How to Participate: Potential volunteers can apply using this link. To refer a child through JBBBS, please fill out this online form. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Volunteer Time Commitment: All programs require 4 hours of meeting per month. Our Lunch-Time Program requires one hour a week, every week, at the elementary schools. Our Campus Based Program requires two hours a week, twice a month, on the Brandeis University campus.
