What We Do

The Writing Center offers free writing tutorial services to all Brandeis University undergraduate and graduate students. Our staff of  graduate student consultants can help you with papers, personal statements, short assignments, English language issues, job applications and more of your writing needs.

Our staff can help you at every stage of the writing process (brainstorming, outlining, drafting, revisions, final edits), but please keep in mind that we are not a proofreading service.

We offer two types of consultations for students:

1) Tutoring Sessions: 45-minute, content-focused sessions for students working on a range of projects. We can help you brainstorm and focus topics, build stronger argument skills, use MLA citations correctly, and develop better drafting and editing strategies. In addition to one-on-one sessions with our consultants, the Writing Center also offers group workshops on various writing-related topics.

2) Grammar Sessions:  These are 30 minute sessions for students who want to concentrate on correcting grammar in their essays. This service is designed to be more than simply proofreading -- rather, we show students how to spot common errors and help them develop useful self-correcting strategies.

Our Consultants

The Writing Center consultants are advanced graduate students from a variety of academic departments with demonstrated writing ability and teaching experience.

Please email comments or questions to Courtney Pina Miller and Brenden O'Donnell, Writing Center directors, at writingcenter@brandeis.edu, or call (781) 736-4885 to reach the main line.
