Churchill Scholarships

The Churchill Scholarship provides funding to American students for a year of master’s study at the University of Cambridge, based at Churchill College.

The program was set up at the request of Sir Winston Churchill in order to fulfill his vision of U.S.–U.K. scientific exchange with the goal of advancing science and technology on both sides of the Atlantic, helping to ensure our future prosperity and security.

The Churchill competition is by institutional invitation only, which means that the applicant pool is highly selective even before the process begins. Approximately 103 schools may nominate two candidates each. There are usually 80 to 100 applications per year. Fourteen Churchill scholars are selected.

Amount, Duration of Award

Between $44,000 and $50,000, which covers full tuition, a stipend, travel costs and the chance to apply for a $2,000 special research grant. The award is for nine to 12 months, depending on the field.
