Biochemistry and Biophysics Graduate Program

How to Apply to the Graduate Program

It is strongly preferred that you submit your application online through the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences website.

Students will be admitted on the basis of academic records, a personal statement, and letters of recommendation from at least three faculty members. MS applicants are required to submit two letters of recommendation, but three letters are recommended. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline from an accredited institution. We recommend that applicants have had course-experience in calculus, physics, organic chemistry, and physical chemistry.

For fall 2024 admission, the deadline to apply to the PhD program has been extended from December 1 to December 21. The Biochemistry and Biophysics (BCBP) PhD Program will begin reviewing applications in early December. Incoming students begin the program at the end of August.

The Biochemistry and Biophysics Master’s Degree Program accepts applications for the fall semester only. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until May 1; application review begins in January. Please note that the application may be closed earlier if the desired cohort size is reached prior to May 1. As we cannot predict when we will complete the admission cycle each year, students are advised to submit applications as early as possible.

Visits to Brandeis

Applicants are encouraged to visit Brandeis to meet with students and faculty. We will do our best to accommodate requested visits based on availability of faculty. It may be difficult to schedule a visit between January and April because the BCBP Admissions Committee invites specific applicants to visit Brandeis for scheduled interview dates during this time. Applicants should use the second page of the online application to list the names of the faculty with whom they wish to meet during their visit. Notifications of admissions decisions are sent out as they are made, but generally are made no later than mid-April.
