Security and Bag Policy for Commencement Ceremonies

For the safety and security of all guests, graduates, honorees, and members of the Brandeis community, we have implemented several procedures and restrictions regarding items permitted inside the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center for both the Undergraduate and Graduate Commencement ceremonies.

Security Screening

All guests will pass through metal detectors upon arrival. Please plan to arrive early and follow all signage and instructions to ensure a smooth entry process.

Item Restrictions

The following items are not permitted inside Gosman Sports and Convocation Center:

  • Backpacks or large bags
  • Balloons
  • Noise makers
  • Animals (except service animals)
  • Visual obstructions such as signs, banners, or flags
  • Strollers

Clear Bag Policy

To expedite entry and enhance safety, we are enforcing a clear bag policy. We ask all guests to limit what they bring and review the bag guidelines below:

Permitted Bags
  • Clear/transparent totes, clear plastic storage bags
  • Medically-necessary bags
  • Small clutch purses or handbags no larger than 12 inches by 12 inches (these will not be searched unless they trigger the metal detectors)
Prohibited Bags
  • Backpacks
  • Large diaper bags
  • Messenger bags
  • Any opaque bag larger than 12"x12"

By limiting bag size and type, we aim to reduce screening delays and ensure a secure environment for all attendees. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

All bags are subject to search.
