Information for Faculty
Brandeis University will hold its 72nd Exercises of Commencement on Sunday, May 21, 2023. This page contains helpful information specifically for faculty.
The Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. and a Graduate Commencement Ceremony will begin at 2:45 p.m. Additional details will be posted in this space as they are confirmed and become available. Each ceremony will feature all of the ceremonial elements, featured speakers, student speakers, and — new for 2023 — the graduates will be individually presented and cross the stage as their names are announced. Local or individual departmental ceremonies requiring academic regalia will no longer be taking place on Commencement Day.

Please complete and submit the online Faculty Commencement Registration form to register participation in either or both ceremonies on May 21. Registration assists us to plan for and coordinate a smooth-running event and provide a box lunch to those who request one in advance. The faculty registration deadline is Friday, April 21, 2023.
The university will rent regalia for you if you do not have your own. Rentals include a black robe, a hood with your school colors, and a cap.
This year, you will submit regalia orders directly to the cap and gown vendor, Balfour. You will be directed to the Balfour order form upon registering for Commencement. If necessary, you may access the Balfour Faculty Regalia Order website directly. It only takes a few moments to complete your order.
The faculty regalia order deadline is Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
Regalia orders will be available for pick up on Friday, May 19, any time between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the at the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center. Regalia not picked up on Friday will be available on Sunday morning beginning at 7 a.m. in the Dance Studio (basement level) at Gosman.

On Commencement day, the Dance Studio in the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center (basement level) will be open for robing beginning at 7 a.m. Faculty will assemble for the academic procession promptly between 8:30 to 8:45 a.m. in the dance studio for the Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony and between 2:15 and 2:30 p.m. for the Graduate Commencement Ceremony.
If you would like to pick up your regalia in advance it will be available for pick up on Friday, May 19, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the Concession Area at the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center.
Following is the schedule outline for the Exercises of Commencement in the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center on Sunday.
Undergraduate Ceremony
- 7 a.m.: Rented academic regalia will be available in the Dance Studio (basement level).
- 8-8:45 a.m.: Faculty robe and assemble for the academic procession in the dance studio.
- 9-11:30 a.m.: Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony
- 11:30 a.m.: Box lunch available in the dance studio.
Graduate Ceremony
- 1:30-2:30 p.m.: Faculty robe and assemble for the academic procession in the Dance Studio.
- 2:45-5:15 p.m.: Graduate Commencement Ceremony
Departments, programs, and affiliated groups have elected to hold Celebratory Receptions supported by University Events in place of individual ceremonies on Commencement Day. Celebratory receptions will take place the week prior to Commencement. If you have questions about the celebratory receptions please be in touch with your academic administrator or email commencement@brandeis.edu with questions.
Faculty should park in regular weekday parking lots and walk to the Gosman Sports and Convocation Ceremony. Shuttles will be available and additional information on shuttles can be found on the Commencement Parking information page.
On Commencement day, all Gosman Center parking lots will be closed for general use and accessible only to those individuals with VIP blue-and-orange fluorescent hang-tag parking permits. Only Government issued placards for accessible parking will be accepted.
