Brandeis University has named Linda T.M. Bui the interim dean of the newly renamed School of Business and Economics.

Formerly Brandeis International Business School, the School will now be known as the School of Business and Economics to reflect its integrated strength in global business, economics and data-driven leadership. This change is part of a bold academic realignment at Brandeis, establishing four new schools that integrate the university’s graduate professional programs into its liberal arts curriculum.

A professor of economics, Bui joined the faculty of the Brandeis Department of Economics in 2004 and most recently served in the Office of the Provost as senior associate provost for assessment and accreditation. Before joining the Provost’s office, Bui served as the International Business School’s senior associate dean.

“Linda Bui’s broad experience and record of success across multiple roles at the university make her exceptionally well-prepared to lead the School of Business and Economics as interim dean,” said Brandeis President Arthur Levine. “She is a distinguished economist and a respected academic leader within the Brandeis community. At a time when global insight and principled leadership are more essential than ever in business education, I look forward to working closely with Linda as the School advances its mission to develop data-driven, ethical, globally minded leaders.”

Bui previously held numerous leadership positions at the International Business School. From 2018 to 2024, she served as the School’s senior associate dean and associate dean of academic programs. Bui also served as program director of the School’s PhD in International Economics and Finance beginning in 2016.

“I’m honored to serve as interim dean and continue working alongside the outstanding students, faculty, staff and alumni who make the School of Business and Economics a vibrant global community,” said Bui. “Together, we’ll continue to build on the School’s many strengths while preparing our students to achieve meaningful career success grounded in integrity, purpose and global understanding.”

As an academic researcher, Bui specializes in environmental economics with a focus on the effectiveness of regulatory measures and their impact on wider economic outcomes, most recently in the area of children’s health.

She has studied the effects of environmental regulation on labor demand and productivity, the consequences of toxic release reporting on infant mortality, and the effectiveness of voluntary regulatory measures on toxic pollution levels. She has also served on several U.S. Environmental Protection Agency committees, including the Science Advisory Board (SAB) Council on Economy-wide Modeling, the SAB Council on Environmental Justice, and the committee for the EPA Scientific and Technical Achievement Award.

Bui received her PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has previously taught at Boston University, the University of Michigan, MIT and the Sloan School of Management. At Brandeis, she has taught a variety of courses at the undergraduate, graduate and PhD levels, including statistics, environmental economics, public finance and microeconomics.

Bui succeeds Kathryn Graddy, who is returning to the Brandeis faculty after serving as dean of the International Business School from 2018 to 2025. Graddy is the Fred and Rita Richman Distinguished Professor in Economics.

“Katy’s leadership over the past seven years has been extraordinary,” said Bui. “I am deeply grateful for her mentorship during my time as senior associate dean and look forward to building on the strong foundation she has established.”
