The Global Markets Investment Club (GMIC) is a student-led club at Brandeis International Business School that manages a $200,000 equity portfolio on behalf of the Brandeis Endowment Fund.

The club’s mission is to develop the investment knowledge and skills of its members through hands-on experience. Students also build their network and strengthen their practical skills through weekly discussion groups, industry speaker events and the annual Stock Pitch Challenge.

In addition to being a lot of fun, GMIC membership is a great resume builder!

Managing a $200,000 portfolio

GMIC membership allows students to gain valuable experience by actively managing a $200,000 stock portfolio alongside a group of approximately 20 fellow students.

The club meets weekly to present financial updates, where club members can pitch recommendations to buy, hold or sell the stock of most companies traded on Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange. Members are also tasked with tracking individual companies and are expected to be informed on current economic trends.

The club receives significant support and interest from the student body and faculty at the International Business School, which has allowed us to attract a group of diverse and talented students to help manage our portfolio.

As the club’s co-president, I enjoy planning campus events and serving as a point of contact for guest speakers. It’s been a great opportunity to expand my professional network and develop my skills as a leader.

May the best stock pitch win!
GMIC also hosts an annual Stock Pitch Challenge where student teams make a buy/hold/sell recommendation on a company of their choice.

The winning pitches are decided by a panel of expert judges with decades of experience working in the finance industry.

To prepare teams for the competition, GMIC hosts a series of sessions that cover a wide range of financial topics, including a Bloomberg Lab training session.

The Bloomberg Lab at the International Business School gives students access to a world-renowned financial, regulatory and market database that's used by virtually all of the major financial firms and organizations around the globe.
