With its close proximity to Boston, thriving dining and cultural scene and abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities, it’s clear why Boston magazine recently named Waltham, Massachusetts, a top place to live.

Waltham, which is home to Brandeis International Business School, is a vibrant and diverse suburban city located just nine miles west of Boston — a global hub of education, innovation and technology.

There are many great reasons to live in Waltham if you are a student. High on the list, of course, is the city’s convenient location.

In addition to experiencing all the perks of suburban living, Waltham residents enjoy easy access to everything Greater Boston has to offer.

Thanks to the commuter train station located just steps from campus, students can travel quickly via public transportation to downtown Boston and Cambridge. Waltham is also serviced by several major highways that connect the city with Boston and famous New England destinations like the White Mountains, Berkshires and seacoast.

Getting to know Waltham

Known as “the Watch City,” Waltham is a safe and welcoming community of roughly 60,000 residents. There’s so much for students to do here!

Brandeis University’s beautiful 235-acre campus is located near several public parks and open spaces, as well as many shopping, dining and entertainment options.

Among the most popular destinations is Moody Street. Located just one mile from campus, Waltham’s very own restaurant row features dozens of trendy eateries, bars and shops. Here are five of our favorite places to eat!

Waltham is home to a thriving local arts scene and vibrant small-business community. Among the cool places to check out are the Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston, Brandeis University’s very own Rose Art Museum and Ramble Market — a 15,000-square-foot antique and vintage collective.

There’s also no shortage of outdoor activities. You can canoe, kayak or paddleboard along the Charles River, go hiking or biking along the Upper Charles River Reservation, or explore forests, meadows and ponds at the nearby Beaver Brook Reservation and Habitat Education Center and Wildlife Sanctuary.

No matter your interests, Waltham is a fun, beautiful and convenient city with something to offer everyone!
