- Competitive Position: In aggregate, the University’s overall base pay target is the market 50th percentile. Competitive position (pay versus market) is measured by a robust annual benchmarking process. However, the pay position for individual employees varies based on their performance, relevant education, work experience and competencies.

Q: What salary surveys were used to provide information on competitive pay levels?
A: Primary market data sources are seven surveys from four major consulting firms. They are described below in detail. These surveys represent the best available data reflecting the competitive market for talent. The University also reviews specialty surveys such as the University Athletic Association Survey, Western Management’s College and Athletics Survey (D3) and the Association of Art Museum Directors Survey.

A: The Human Resources Department has complete lists of organizations in all salary surveys. A representative list follows: Babson College, Bentley University, Boston College, Boston University, Harvard University, MIT, and Northeastern University. Regional institutions include Brown University, Dartmouth College and Yale University.
