Interim Policy on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Policy Statement

This policy is established as an interim measure while the Drone Committee gathers more information about the constructive uses of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV’s), available training and certification programs, evolving federal regulations and experience on other campuses. Until permanent guidelines are developed there shall be no recreational UAV flying at Brandeis University.

This policy applies to indoor and outdoor flying of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV or drones) from or above Brandeis University property.

The indoor use of UAV’s in teaching and research is permitted, with appropriate training, supervision and notification of space administrators.

Outdoor teaching or research uses of UAVs also require the permission of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
