Five Doors One Room

Susan Dibble, Professor Emeritus
An Original DibbleDance Piece with Brandeis Students, Susan Dibble, Theater faculty member Nan Armstrong, and Theater MFA grad Sheila Bandyopadhyay. Created and Directed by Susan Dibble

Once upon a time there was a man
He lived in a room with many doors, all locked.
He was the keeper of the keys.
The room was a place in which people gathered, came and went, stayed awhile,
Conversed, celebrated, told a story, danced, sang, laughed and mourned, while
moving step by step to music and sounds.

“With this new DibbleDance Piece made in collaboration with Brandeis Students, I’m using the simple idea of five doors and one room as a jumping off point to create something out of the ordinary. Something mysterious and illuminating. I love to take what could be perceived as ordinary and make it into a surprise, a delightful experience, exploring the possibilities of its significance and mystery. Approaching the work, I consider what are the stories that can come from the idea of five doors and one room?” - Susan Dibble
