Leonard Asper is a 30-year veteran of the media industry. He is the CEO, founder and majority shareholder of Anthem Sports & Entertainment Corp., a global media company that produces, acquires and distributes content and creates experiences aimed at passionate communities.
Prior to that Mr. Asper was CEO of Canwest Global Communications, one of Canada’s largest media companies. Canwest owned the Global Television Network, 18 cable channels, multiple digital properties and over 30 daily newspapers. It also operated numerous television and radio properties in international markets.
Mr. Asper’s career has included acquisitions, operating public companies, raising capital, startups, integrating companies, expanding into new markets.
A graduate of Brandeis University and the University of Toronto Law School, Mr. Asper remains a member of the Ontario Bar and the Law Society of Upper Canada. He has an Honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Winnipeg.
Mr. Asper serves as co-Chair of the Board of Advisors of the Brandeis University International Business School, was awarded the school’s Dean’s Medal and founded the Asper School for Global Entrepreneurship.
Mr. Asper also serves as a Trustee of the Asper Foundation, is the founder of the Joshua Foundation and a member of the Board of Governors of the Saul and Claribel Simkin Center, a seniors’ housing complex in Winnipeg, Canada.
Mr. Asper has been recognized as one of the top 100 “Power Players” in the U.S. Cable, Broadband & Media Industry from 2020-2025. He was included in Canada’s Top 40 Under 40, as well as being named CEO of the year by Playback Magazine, a Canadian media industry publication.
