Sandra 17-18

Sandra Casarez

Class of 2021
Major: Health, Science, Society, and Policy
Minor: Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies
Hometown: Santa Clarita, CA
Pronouns: She, Her, Hers

Sandra is currently a first year at Brandeis. She is from the Los Angeles area and has lived there her whole life. She is also the first in her family to attend college. She is interested in being pre-med at Brandeis with a major in HSSP and a minor in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality studies. With that, she wants to go to med school in hopes of becoming an obstetrician to help pregnant women in developing countries. Around campus you can find Sandra participating in Latinx, WOCA, Waltham Group and the SLB. She is very excited about her first year at Brandeis and involvement in SSSP.

Billy Chau

Hometown: Bronx, NY
Pronouns: He, Him, His Billy is from the Bronx, New York and is currently a junior majoring in Biology. He aspires to be a researcher and hopes to become fluent in Spanish. He wants to make his family and the people from the Bronx proud! In addition to being on the SLB, he is also a peer mentor for SSSP and a member of the Salsa club on campus. This past summer he has developed a hobby for fishing in the city. He is looking forward to having a wonderful first year on the SLB team!

Michelle Dennis

Michelle Dennis is an Atlanta native who arrived to Brandeis in the Fall of 2014 as a Brandeis Atlanta Posse Scholar. Michelle is now a senior with an intended Bachelors of Science in Biology. This year Michelle serves as a Community Advisor, a Biology Laboratory Teaching Assistant, and a member of the Student Leadership Board of SSSP. In her free time, it is likely to find her in the dance studio as she loves ballet and was the Artistic Director of the Brandeis Ballet Club. With hopes of working in the field of pediatric rehabilitative care, Michelle plans to use the education she is receiving from her professors, other staff and faculty members, and students to achieve her goals. She has a genuine passion for working with people and is excited for her fourth year with the Student Leadership Board.

Cindy 17-18

Cindy Ma

Major: Biology & Computer Science
Hometown: West Hartford, CT
Pronouns: She, Her, Hers

Cindy is currently a senior at Brandeis majoring in Biology and Computer Science. This past summer, she participated in the Justice Brandeis Semester program, where she helped build a voice, mobile and web application that assists users in the political voting process by providing information about how to register to vote, polling location, upcoming elections and state representatives. She currently is an intern at a social robotics company called Jibo, where she helps with the robot’s natural language understanding capabilities. She hopes to continue her work in the technology field post-graduation. Cindy has also traveled to Honduras with Global Medical Brigades and volunteered with local and foreign health professionals to provide medical care to patients in rural communities. In her free time, you can find Cindy playing tennis, dancing at cultural events, and trying new restaurants in Boston. She is very excited and looking forward to her second year on the Student Leadership Board.

Matt Michaud

Matt is a senior majoring in History, Economics, and Sociology. He also studies Japanese language at Brandeis. His hometown is Oxford, Connecticut. On campus, Matt is the captain of the Brandeis Quidditch team and serves as a Community Advisor Charles River. He is looking forward to his fourth year on the Student Leadership Board.

Agnele 17-18

Agnele Sewa

Hometown: Atlanta, GA

Agnele is a sophomore Brandeis Posse Scholar majoring in Biochemistry with a minor in Health Science and Social Policy. As a freshman, she was invited to participate in the CDC HIV and TB Student Worksite Experience Program. Last semester, she held an internship at the Prospects Hill Community Center as a tutor and field trip coordinator. She was accepted as a summer research intern at the University of Buffalo to assist Dr. Laura Feltri at the Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences - Hunter James Kelly Research Institute. She currently works as a laboratory technician at the Paradis Lab, serves as a teacher’s assistant for Music and Dance form Ghana, and a Community Advisor. She hopes to pursue a career in research in hopes of making treatments more accessible to all. She looks forward to the exciting year ahead!

Irma Zamarripa

Irma is a freshman at Brandeis University. She is passionate about education, social justice, and law. Hence, she hopes to obtain a double major in Sociology and Education Studies with minors in Legal Studies and Social Justice/ Social Policy. She is part of the Student Leadership Board, and she hopes to contribute insightful ideas and inclusive projects for the SSSP community. She is most excited about the I AM Awareness week because “it is a week full of inspirational speakers, fun activities, and wonderful memories.”
