Daniel Crane
Daniel Crane is a rabbinical student and Wexner Graduate Fellow at the Hebrew Union College, where he has just completed his first year of study in Jerusalem. After graduating in 2007 from the University of Virginia with a BA in Religious Studies and Jewish Studies, he served for a year with the national service organization City Year: Washington, D.C., a member of the AmeriCorps network. His primary service work with City Year was teaching an HIV-prevention curriculum in D.C. public high schools; he also planned and participated in small- and large-scale community service projects. He has a passion for theater and is excited to be moving to New York City this August.
David Goldberg
David Goldberg is a third-year rabbinical student at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. He was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, and was a participant on Genesis in the summer of 2001. He also was active in high school and college in USY, KOACH, and Ramah, and is a Nativ alumnus. He graduated from Toronto’s York University with a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies, along with an Advanced Certificate in Hebrew and Jewish Studies. Last year, David served as the rabbinic intern at the University of Maryland and taught at a congregational school in South Orange, NJ. He just completed a year of study in Israel, where he also worked as Rosh Tefillah for Ramah TRY (Tichon Ramah Yerushalayim). David enjoys Jewish study, community service, and most sports (basketball, baseball, Frisbee, and more), and cannot wait to return to Genesis.
Shimshon Stuart Siegel
Shimshon Stü grew up near the swamps of South Florida. After earning a film degree from Boston University, he began wandering, from Europe to California to Romania to New York to Israel (and a few places in between). Over the years, Stü has taught, led services, made art, sermonized and connected with people around the world, across the Jewish spectrum and beyond. He has been a Mad Scientist in Atlanta, a creative writing teacher in California and a Talmud instructor in Jerusalem. Stü has recently returned to the United States after three and a half years in Israel, where he learned Torah, performed on stage and helped run a post-high school Year Course for the Jewish Agency. This is his third year with Genesis/BIMA.
Sara Smith
Sara Smith, a Los Angeles native, recently graduated from Brandeis University with a degree in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies and History. She is an alumnus from Genesis 2003 and has been a part of the BIMA/Genesis year round office staff for the past few years. Sara spent a semester studying in Australia and learning about Australian Jewish history and culture. Her hobbies include playing squash, singing, and international travel. Sara is excited to return for her third summer as a Genesis staff member.
Ariel WolgelAriel Wolgel lived the "small town" life just outside Kansas City, Kansas for the first 18 years of her life, before expanding her horizons to Michlelet Mevaseret Yerushalayim in Jerusalem, and eventually, New York City. After completing a BA in Jewish studies at Stern College, she returned to Jerusalem where she received her MA in Jewish Education through the Pardes Institute. Ariel currently teaches Tanach and Chassidut at Midreshet Amit, a learning and volunteering program for post-high school girls. Aside from spending time with her husband Aron, she enjoys connecting with friends and family. Ariel gets a thrill from spinning (indoor cycling), and loves relaxing with a good cup of coffee. Most of all, she seeks out opportunities to express her creativity.
