In addition to these core benefits, the university provides additional benefits, services and activities to help enhance the quality of life.

 Group Life Insurance

The University provides life insurance equal to two times base salary up to age 70 and 50% in force coverage thereafter. Employees may purchase additional coverage using before-tax dollars.


 Retirement Plan

The University offers a comprehensive retirement plan for employees who have attained age 21 and have completed one year of benefit eligible employment. There are a number of investment options available. Participation is voluntary.

 Flexible Reimbursement Accounts

The university makes available flexible reimbursement accounts for both dependent care and health care. Under the plan, employees may set aside a portion of their salary for dependent care or nonreimbursable medical expenses on a pretax basis (meaning federal, state and Social Security taxes will not be taken). The portion of the salary elected is placed into an account, and is then reimbursed as expenses are incurred.

 Educational Assistance

Following three months of employment, full-time employees are eligible for full-tuition remission for one undergraduate or graduate course per semester at Brandeis. The benefit is prorated for part-time employees.

Following three months of employment, a full time employee's spouse or same sex domestic partner is eligible for a 75% reduction in the cost of one undergraduate course per semester at Brandeis.

Following three months of employment, full time employees' children are eligible for a 50% reduction in the cost of one summer school course per session at Brandeis.

Following four years of full time employment, employees' children who meet Brandeis admissions requirements as a full-time student are eligible for a 75% reduction in the cost of undergraduate tuition at Brandeis.

 Holidays

Brandeis has 11 paid holidays each year. See the list of holidays for the 2007-08 academic year.



 Personal Days

All benefits-eligible staff accrue personal on a per-pay-period basis per calendar year based on time worked or paid leave.


 Vacation Leave

All benefits-eligible staff accrue vacation on a per-pay-period basis per calendar year based on time worked or paid leave.
