Our Quads

Welcome to Residence Life at Brandeis University.  There are a variety of housing options at Brandeis, making living on-campus comfortable and enjoyable.

FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS

First year students live in either Massell Quad or North Quad, both of which are traditional style hall living arrangements containing single, double and triple rooms. 

SOPHOMORE YEAR STUDENTS

Sophomores live in East Quad, Rosenthal Quad, the Castle, Charles River Apartments or 567 South Street.  East Quad and Rosenthal Quad are composed of single and double rooms, East being a traditional style hall, and Rosenthal containing suites of eight people.  567 South Street offers two bedroom and efficiency-style apartments which include kitchens.  The Charles River apartments offer efficiency, two bedroom, three bedroom, and five bedroom apartments.  All apartments have a kitchen area and private bathroom.  Efficiency and some two bedroom apartments do not have living rooms.  The Castle offers traditional hall style living and suite living arrangements. 

JUNIOR AND SENIOR YEAR STUDENTS

Juniors and seniors primarily live in Ziv Quad, Charles River Apartments, or the Village; the Foster Mods are exclusively for senior students.  The Charles River Apartments and Foster Mods offer a variety of apartment housing options which include kitchens.  Some apartments have a living room while others do not.  Ziv offers six person suites with singles while the Village offers singles and doubles in a cluster hall-style arrangement.

Although no two quads at Brandeis are the same, there are common features in each location.  Please explore the different quad pages and see how each quad is unique.  Please see below for the common features in each quad.

Community Development Coordinator Title Change

After reviewing best practices in the field of higher education and our peer institutions, as well as, the scope of what our current Community Development Coordinator position descriptions entail, the Department of Residence Life will be changing the Community Development Coordinator (CDC) title to Community Development Coordinator (CDC) for the 2008-2009 academic year.  This name change will go into affect on June 1, 2008.

Staffing:

  • Community Advisors (CAs) are student staff in the residence halls.  Each CA is responsible for a floor or area within the residence hall where the CA lives.
  • CAs provide community programming, resources, and support for the students in their quad.
  • CAs engage residents in establishing active living/learning environments where each individual in invested in promoting the success and safety of all members of the community.
  • A Community Development Coordinator (CDC) is a professional staff member with an advanced degree in higher education administration or counseling who also lives in the quad.
  • The CDCs’ responsibilities include supervising the CAs, addressing conflict and conduct concerns, and rotating on-call responsibilities.
  • Each CDC holds weekly office hours to meet with students and is available by appointment.
  • The goal of all Residence Life staff is to build community within the nine residence quads on-campus.

Rooms:

  • Rooms are singles, doubles, natural triples, or lofted triples.
  • Residence halls are either traditional hall style, suite style, or apartment style.  Rooms on traditional style halls open up onto a hallway and have communal bathroom facilities.  Suite-style rooms share a common living area and have private bathrooms for the suite.  Apartment-style rooms share a kitchen and private bathrooms.  Some apartment spaces share a common living area too.
  • Students are responsible for cleaning common areas in suites and apartments, including bathrooms, kitchens, and living areas.

Amenities:

  • One phone line with voice mail per student.  Phones are provided for the student through Library and Technology Services (LTS).  For more information on phone lines, please see http://lts.brandeis.edu/techresources/telecom/index.html
  • Wireless Internet in all residence halls
  • Ethernet access
  • Cable TV available in each room
  • Each room is furnished with an extra-long twin bed, a desk, a desk chair, and a dresser for each student, along with closet or wardrobe space.
  • Laundry facilities in each quad
