Meet the Staff


Alethea Raybeck
Director, Global Youth Summit

Alethea Raybeck is Director of the Global Youth Summit at Brandeis University. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing the planning, organization, and execution of the Summit’s staff, programming, and activities.

Prior to joining Brandeis in 2014, Alethea was Program Director of the Boston office of the Posse Foundation, a leadership development and college access non-profit. In that capacity, she supervised the recruitment, training, and support of cohorts of talented urban high school students who attended top-tier colleges on full-tuition, merit-based scholarships. While at Posse, she expanded the office’s outreach efforts, refined its writing curriculum, and ran a diverse slate of events. Before her time at Posse, she taught writing at the University of Michigan and helped manage the Bear River Writers’ Conference in northern Michigan. In addition, she has also worked, in various roles, for WGBH and Harvard University Press.

Alethea completed her undergraduate studies at Williams College and her graduate degree, a Masters of Fine Arts, at the University of Michigan.

Andrew Flagel
Senior Vice President for Students and Enrollment
Executive Director, Global Youth Summit

Dr. Andrew Flagel is Senior Vice President for Students and Enrollment at Brandeis University. In this role, he supervises the offices of admissions, community living (housing), athletics, financial aid, student accounts, the Hiatt Career Center, the Health Center, the Interfaith Chaplaincy, the Intercultural Center, Student Activities, Global Youth Summit, and others serving the Brandeis community. He also teaches periodic courses, most recently in the theater department.

Prior to joining Brandeis in 2011, Dr. Flagel was Associate Vice President for Enrollment Development and Dean of Admissions at George Mason University, where he also taught in the Department of Communication, was Executive Director for the Washington Journalism and Media Conference and the Washington Youth Summit on the Environment, and served as adviser to the university band and the Jewish Student Association. Before Mason he was the Director of Admissions at the Flint campus of the University of Michigan. He also served as the Director of Enrollment Management for the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, and as a Regional Director of Admissions at George Washington University (GW).

Dr. Flagel received his Ph.D. in Education with a concentration in Communication from the College of Education at Michigan State University. His bachelors in psychology and philosophy and master of arts in education and human development were each from GW.
