Pedagogical Considerations of AI
Since the release of ChatGPT in November 2022, there have been many reports, white papers, and expert opinions published on the topic of AI in higher education. Here we highlight some of the resources that may be particularly good at offering food for thought:
- Integrating Artificial Intelligence: Key Strategies for Higher Ed - The Minerva Project White Paper
The Minerva Project is an educational organization that designs and delivers educational programs through educational and corporate partners globally. Publishing this white paper in the fall of 2023, they call for higher educators to revamp their teaching, learning and assessment practices in response to AI and offer critical strategies to successfully transform higher education institutions for an AI-integrated world. - MLA-CCCC Working Papers - Initial PaperThe MLA-CCCC Joint Task Force on Writing and AI published their “Working Paper: Overview of the Issues, Statement of Principles, and Recommendations” (July 2023). In addition to the initial paper and writing community responses, the TF’s 2023 “Year in Review” and its most recent working paper (October, 2024) are available.
- Teaching and Generative AI: Pedagogical Possibilities and Productive Tensions -Buyserie, B., & Thurston, T.N. (Eds.). (2024), Utah State University.
The book covers a typical set of topics for teaching with AI, including ethical concerns, benefits and pitfalls of using AI, and academic integrity, among many others. It is an easy read and offers immediate practical applications for integrating AI in your teaching or developing an articulated position on not allowing AI in the classroom. Chapter contributions are written by college professors who teach various disciplines

Ethan Mollick is a professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania who studies entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as AI. He has become one of the leaders on AI in higher education and has been interviewed on NPR, the New York Times Ezra Klein Show, and many other programs. - Subscribe to Maha Bali’s blog on AI
