AI Use Policies & Guidelines
Artificial Intelligence, like any other technology, must be used in adherence to existing Brandeis policies. Data governance protocols, data classification standards, cybersecurity, FERPA, Academic Integrity policies and more all play a role in how we use technology and manage institutional data. The AI Task Force is working with various stakeholders across campus to assess and adjust policies to include AI statements as necessary. Please review and understand the collection of existing policies on campus that may be relavent to the use of AI and the data that goes into and comes out of these platforms.
Brandeis IT, Data Governance and Information Security Policies
It is important to understand how technologies may be using institutional data and to ensure that policies governing the use of Brandeis data are understood and adhered to. For more information on important policies such as the Data Governance Policie and Written Information Security Policy, please review our data protection webpage.Teaching & Learning Policies / Procedures / Guidelines
There are many areas on campus currently developing guidelines and best practices in the use of AI. For Teaching and Learning, one of the best resources we have at Brandeis is the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL).
The CTL covers many areas including some that are tied to the use of AI such as:
- Syllabus Policies (including AI statement best practices)
- Citation Guidelines
- Assessment Support
The Department of Student Rights and Community Standards supports the development of ethical and engaged community members by educating students on their Rights & Responsibilities, addressing inappropriate behavior in a fair and responsive manner, and offering various opportunities for personal growth. This group may have information that is important to students surrounding Academic Integrity and can be a useful resource for students and faculty.
Other Policies
University Policies are internal administrative regulations that have the following features: (a)they have wide application within the University, (b) they are designed in accordance with applicable law, and (c) they are intended to promote consistent operational activities among the University's various divisions and constituencies. Other Brandeis policies that govern the activities of a specific division, department, or group, such as the Faculty Handbook, the Brandeis University Bulletin, or Brandeis University Rights and Responsibilities, may be important to review prior to using or purchasing AI platforms.
