"Cascadia Field Guide: Art, Ecology, Poetry" (edited by Elizabeth Bradfield, CMarie Fuhrman, Derek Sheffield, forthcoming from Mountaineers Books, 2023). Part of a developing conversation of like-minded creators, following "The Sonoran Desert: A Literary Field Guide" (U. Arizona Press, 2016) and "A Literary Field Guide to Southern Appalachia" (U. Georgia, 2019), this book honors the beings (plants, mammals, birds, invertebrates) of Cascadia through communities, stories, and art. Around 130 beings from Cascadia, the region that stretches from Yakutat, Alaska in the north to Mendocino, California in the south; from the Pacific coast in the west to the Rocky Mountains' divide in the east (including Juneau, Seattle, Portland, Spokane, Missoula). This book brings 13 communities, each represented by a different artist, of 130+ beings. Each being ( chum salmon, bitterbrush, geoduck) is engaged by a work of art, literature, and also a natural history story that blends scientific and Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK). The anthology will be published by Mountaineers Books in spring of 2023.
