Lunch with an Environmental Lobbyist

How can YOU make a difference in climate policy? Students learned about the current state of play for environmental policy in Massachusetts, how ideas become laws, and where they fit in during this event. Katharine Lange, policy specialist for the Massachusetts Rivers Alliance, shared current challenges she's working on in the water world, and opportunities for students to speak up for rivers.

Students learned about the science, policy and politics of climate geoengineering from an international panel featuring:

  • Wil Burns, Northwestern University Visiting Professor of Environmental Policy and Culture and Energy and Sustainability
  • Aarti Gupta, Wageningen University Professor of Global Environmental Governance
  • Bill Moomaw, Tufts University Professor Emeritus of International Environmental Policy

The panel was moderated by Prakash Kashwan, Brandeis University Associate Professor of Environmental Studies and Affiliated Faculty at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management.

In 2023, the Center for German and European Studies at Brandeis University will celebrate its 25th anniversary. To kick off its 25th anniversary celebration, CGES held a conference in coordination with Brandeis' Year of Climate Action and the launch of CGES' director Sabine von Mering’s English translation of Luisa Neubauer and Alex Repenning's book, Beginning to End the Climate Crisis: A History of Our Future. Students, Faculty and guests came to celebrate CGES and enjoyed a stimulating conversation on German climate action, climate justice, and climate activism, and what must be done to protect a livable future.
