Creative Approaches to Transitional Justice

Conversations Series

Colorful drawing of a treeProgram in Peacebuilding and the Arts and IMPACT in partnership with Acts of Listening Lab,  and Centre for Oral History and Digital Storytelling at Concordia University invite to explore the contributions of arts, oral history and culture to communities and societies in transition, based on the March 2020 special issue of the International Journal of Transitional Justice. Discuss implications of examples from many regions for transitional justice processes and possibilities — particularly in Colombia, in relation to the legacy of slavery in the United States, and in relation to the Rohingya people of Myanmar.

CAST Capstone: A Celebration Exhibition

The minor in Creativity, the Arts and Social Transformation hosted the CAST minors as they presented their final capstone projects. Part of Create@Brandeis: Living Room Fest, May 1-3, Sponsored by the Arts Engagement team of the Division of Creative Arts, Brandeis University.

Anna Cass
Title: Inspired by Voices of Comedy
Description: Anna performed a short standup comedy set inspired by her CAST capstone: "Voices of Comedy," a two-day comedy event featuring performances by women in the Boston comedy scene and a workshop.

Emily Eidler
Title: The Cultures of Us
Description: Emily guided participants through a part of a lesson she planned for first-graders exploring culture. She showed a picture book and lead an art project. 

Haia R'nana Bchiri
Title: "Comfort: Food"
Description: Haia read selections from her anthology-in-progress of recipes and poems from her family, collected and composed as she worked on her thesis on mother-daughter relationships and then as the world shifted and family gatherings and traditions were put on hold. She posted some recipes in advance to enjoy them at home during the virtual festival.

Hangil Ryu
Title: "Be Kind; Have Fun"
Description: Hangil presented a project showcasing stories that show that kindness still spreads, even during the time of coronavirus.

Rasheed Peters
Title: "At the Heart of it All"
Description: This project consisted of a short video (musical piece-highlight reel-slideshow-monologue hybrid) and an open reflection (rambling) of Rasheed's work as a storyteller and the elements that inspire and form it.

Zoë Rose
Title: "Zoë Rose Spills Her Guts"
Description: "Zoë Rose Spills Her Guts" is a one-woman show about exploring identity.
