Biosafety Training
All personnel involved in biological research, including Principal Investigators, must complete training prior to being added to an active Biological Research Registration. Training in biosafety is conducted through online or in-person training sessions, as well as hands-on, specific training in each individual lab in which experiments are performed. Training will cover a period of five years from the date of completion, after which time personnel must complete the Refresher Training course, also offered through the CITI program.
The Principal Investigator is responsible for ensuring that members of their lab receive proper training in the biohazards and controls specific to their research and the safe conduct of the experimental procedures to be used.

We are pleased to offer online biosafety training through the CITI Program.
Please reference the Instructions for CITI Biosafety Training for step-by-step directions for the online training.
When you have completed the training with a score of 85% or higher on all modules, a completion report will automatically be sent to the Biosafety Office. However, we encourage you to print out and keep a copy of the completion report for your own records.
Please note: Graduate students in the Life Sciences receive biosafety training, in-person, during the Fall Orientation Session so are not required to complete the online training through the CITI Program.
Active personnel, including Principal Investigators, must complete an online re-training every five years through the CITI Program. Investigators must continue to provide training on specific laboratory procedures.
Please reference the Instructions for CITI Biosafety Training – Refresher Training for step-by-step directions for this.
In-person training in biosafety is conducted, on-demand, as needed. Please contact the Biosafety Office to arrange a training session. This session is a substitute for the online training through the CITI Program.
All personnel who will be involved with lentiviral, AAV, and other viral vectors must complete in-person Virus Training with Dr. Frank Sangiorgi. Please contact the Biosafety Office to arrange a training session.
