COMPACT - Your voice needed
August 9, 2022
Dear Members of the Brandeis Community,
In January 2022, we shared with you the news of the extraordinary $10 million gift that established the Samuels Center for Community Partnerships and Civic Transformation (COMPACT) at Brandeis. Bobbi Samuels ’63 and the Samuels Family Foundation endowed this center to honor the late Vic Samuels ’63, who passed away in 2020. Fostering collaborations between Student Affairs and the Academy—as well as our partners locally, nationally, and globally—COMPACT is uniquely positioned to create bridges between Brandeis’ rich culture of student-led community service and its field-defining research, teaching, and creative projects to advance the goals laid out in the Framework for the Future.
Website launch
I am pleased to announce that the COMPACT website is now live, which describes its initial offerings for students, faculty, and staff and includes applications for Communities of Practice, the Samuels Scholars Program, and funding to support community engaged teaching, research, and creative projects. As well, COMPACT is pleased to support the launch of the Community Engaged Scholars Program (CESP), in the School of Arts & Sciences. We encourage undergraduates to enroll in CESP 10 - "Foundations of Community Engagement" - which is being offered for the first time this Fall.
Complete our survey
I invite you, and every member of our community, to help shape the future of COMPACT and to help us better understand the full range of community engagement activities already underway at Brandeis. Please complete the Brandeis Community Engagement Survey so that COMPACT can have the greatest impact in supporting current and future community engaged work at Brandeis.
Thank you for your support and for sharing your insights as we build this vision. We look forward to sharing new opportunities for community engagement as COMPACT launches this fall.
Sincerely,
Carol Fierke
Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
