For New Faculty
It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Brandeis University community. As a new faculty member, here are a few things you'll need to do to get started:Onboarding Checklist
- Complete Workday Onboarding Tasks (I-9, direct deposit, update personal information, etc.) upon receiving an email prompt from Workday. For more information, review the Job Aids.
- The I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification form (pdf) must be completed by your first day of employment. Please note that you cannot be added to the Brandeis payroll until you have completed the I-9 form
- Obtain a Brandeis ID Card.
- Set up a Brandeis email account.
- Subscribe to the Brandeis Academic Calendar.
- Update your profile on the Faculty and Researcher Directory (ScholarWorks).
- Obtain your unique ORCiD identifier or Connect your existing ORCiD identifier with Brandeis via ScholarWorks. For more information, visit ORCiD at Brandeis University.
- Review your contact information and settings to receive BENS Emergency Alerts.
ITS
- Brandeis supports Google Workspace (including email, calendar, drive, Gemini and more) for all faculty, staff, and students. Take a moment to set up your signature, set up working hours in your calendar, and become familiar with the storage limits before classes start.
- Box is the recommended choice for storing sensitive or confidential data (such as FERPA-protected information). Take a moment to download Box Drive and log in with your Brandeis credentials.
- Zoom Workplace is our web-conferencing and digital calling platform.
- Sign up for your Zoom phone line and familiarize yourself with the quick start guide.
- Visit the Teaching with Zoom webpage for using Zoom web-conferencing tools in the classroom.
Classroom and Course Preparation
- Visit the Center for Teaching and Learning webpage to learn about important academic policies, syllabus creation guidelines, evolving guidelines on the use of generative AI tools, and other resource in support of teaching.
- Learn to use Moodle, the university's learning management system. Sign up for a workshop or schedule an appointment with one of the Instructional Technologists for a one-on-one consultation.
- Learn to use Workday for its classroom teaching functions (e.g., admitting students to a class, managing enrollment limits, etc.).
- Visit the Office of the University Registrar website to learn more about the University Bulletin, Course Approvals, the Academic Calendar, and more.
- Visit the Brandeis University Library website to learn more about services available to support teaching and research, including help with submitting course reserve requests for materials you've assigned in class. You may also order books through the Brandeis Bookstore for your courses.
