Student Support Team

Dear Colleagues,

We hope this message finds you well. As we prepare for the upcoming academic year, we are writing to share an important opportunity for faculty engagement.

The Brandeis Student Support Team plays a central role during campus protests, assemblies, and other expressive activities. The team’s mission is to uphold the tradition of student activism while ensuring the safety of our community and the continuity of university operations. Members serve as visible, approachable points of contact, offering accurate information about free speech and university policies, fostering communication, and helping to de-escalate tensions when needed.

Faculty voices are essential to this work. Your participation brings academic perspective, credibility, and a trusted presence to conversations that often occur in high-energy environments. In many cases, engagement by the Student Support Team helps prevent the need for police involvement, supports the rights of all involved, and ensures that campus expression remains respectful and within the bounds of university policy.

The commitment includes being available on short notice to support campus events and participating in in-person training sessions. Your willingness to serve in this capacity will strengthen our ability to create an environment where activism is respected, dialogue is encouraged, and the safety of our community is preserved.
