BJLI Fellows took part in a Symposium for RSJ communal professionals

Fellows of the Brandeis Jewish Leadership Incubator took part in a Symposium for Russian-speaking Jewish communal professionals, organized by COJECO in collaboration with BGI. The Symposium aimed to explore, discuss, consolidate, and ultimately publicize targeted resources, program models, effective tools, and best practices for Jewish professionals working with Russian-speaking Jews. The full day event created multiple opportunities to network, exchange program ideas, and take stock in the incredible work being done in the field of RSJ community engagement.  "I loved the opportunity to reflect on my own identity, how it relates to my professional experience, and to see the ways in which the RSJ experience is also a shared one in so many ways, despite individual differences", said Olga Semenova, BJLI fellow who serves at the Jewish Family Service of Metropolitan Detroit

The symposium began with a video comprised of interviews by BJLI Fellows showcasing motivation and enthusiasm for their profession and chosen field. "I thought it was very interactive and engaging" said Deeana Dobrer, Case Manager at Shorefront YM-YWHA of Brighton-Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn, NY. Fellows took on a leadership role by facilitating group challenge sessions covering topics such as Participant Engagement and Commitment, Addressing Specific Needs of a Target Population, Leadership Development, Advocating for RSJ programs in the wider Jewish community, and Continuity and Sustainability
