Overview

Volunteering is an excellent way to build your skill set and at the same time give back to the community. Volunteering can help you with interpersonal and communication skills, motivating others, and dealing with difficult situations. Likewise, it can help you gain more specific knowledge in a subject area you are interested in. See below for some of the ways you can volunteer.

Brandeis Community Service

Department of Community Service organizes volunteering opportunities in the greater Boston area. You can learn more about different organizations at annual Volunteer Fairs.

International

Volunteering abroad is a great way to expose yourself to other cultures and develop the skills mentioned above. See our international pages for a directory of opportunities.

Year-in-Service

Idealist maintains a list of year in service opportunities nation-wide.

Links

Below are some links that can help you with searching volunteer opportunities. The list is not exhaustive but represents places where Brandeis students have joined well-established programs.

  • Volunteer Boston has an alphabetical listing of agencies supporting volunteer programs.
  • Volunteer Match lets you search opportunities by location and field of interest.
  • Idealist.org is a premiere site for non-profit experiences, including volunteering.
