Where are you interning now (or have interned in the past)?

I'm interning for Forbes.com, the online component of Forbes Magazine.  Our website is considered the world's #1 business site.

How did you find your internship?

I found this internship by researching journalism internships and by speaking to current journalists to find out where they would suggest looking for jobs.

What resources did you utilize to help you prepare for the search?

As a student interested in a journalism career, I have always found www.mediabistro.com and www.journalismjobs.com to be extremely useful.  Additionally, I spoke to people who already work in the field.

What ways did you explore to fund your internship?

I looked into a variety of grants and other opportunities presented by Brandeis.

What are the two most important things you learned through your internship?

Through my internship I was able to learn the tools and tricks of journalism that are imperative to the field but that I would never learn in school since I'm not a journalism student.  I also learned how to manage my time when juggling a handful of major projects all at the same time.

What advice would you give other students looking for internships?

I would advise students to think outside the box when networking.  It's important to contact anyone and everyone you feel close enough and comfortable enough with to see if they can help you in any way.  I would also suggest applying to as many places as possible since so many internship programs are so competitive.

How are you connecting this internship to your academic, personal, and career future?

A lot of the foundation of my writing skills came from all of my courses at Brandeis that involved writing in any way.  I ended up writing a good amount about college this summer which obviously I am able to relate to on a personal level given that I am still in school.  I hope to eventually pursue a career in writing of some sort, whether or not it's in a journalism field, but, regardless, I've improved my writing skills in general by participating in this internship program here.  Writing is a tool that no one will ever be able to take away from me and that I'll be able to use to my advantage always and forever!
