Where are you interning now (or have interned in the past)?

I'm interning at the sports medicine department at Mass General Hospital and at a media lab at MIT.

How did you find your internship?

I found my internship through an alumni of the Brandeis Swim team. I contacted him, and he helped me set the whole thing up.

What resources did you utilize to help you prepare for the search?

I really didn't end up using too many resources since I was fortunate enough to line an internship up through my networking with the alumni.

What ways did you explore to fund your internship?

I contacted a few different people that might have answers about summer funding, but it turned out that the WOW program was really the only way to get any kind of money over the summer.

What are the two most important things you learned through your internship?

Thus far, one of the things that I have really learned through my internship is how to go about starting, funding, collecting data for, and completing a research project. It's a very complicated process, and I've learned a great deal about the process itself as well as the drawbacks that often come about. Second, the most important thing I've learned is more something I learned about myself. For awhile now I have been interested in medicine, but I had never really considered sports medicine itself. I've always had a passion for sports, and this internship has opened my eyes to the field and its possibilities.

What advice would you give other students looking for internships?

Have a solid idea of what you want to do, and start researching early. The earlier you get started, the better chance you have of solidifying
something that you are really interested. There's nothing worse than getting stuck doing something that you aren't passionate about and just
don't want to do.

How are you connecting this internship to your academic, personal, and career future?

This internship has really motivated me in the field of sports medicine as well as medical research. I plan on taking a year after graduating
and working (hopefully in a related field), and then applying to medical school.
