EARTHNOTES May 30, 2014

This issue:

*Many More Internships and Jobs!

Mass Audubon is looking for a few more interns this summer to remove water chestnuts from the watershed near Concord, Assabet, and Sudbury on kayaks and canoes. Their supervisor will be Amber, Stacy and my current supervisor, and should be fun. The links are here for anyone still looking for a summer opportunity--if you are still sending out Earthnotes for the year, could you include this opportunity in the next one?
GIS Internship NYC:
One of our wonderful ENVS alumni has passed along this excellent summer internship for "fellow environmental, cycling, and mapping enthusiasts. We are launching nearly 15 bike share systems across North America this year, so it'll be a pretty crazy summer with lots to do. You can find out more about Social Bicycles here,"  She offers to speak with any of you who are interested, so please let me know if you are and I'll put you in touch. See attached for the internship description.

Environmental Program Officer at Kresge Foundation
Here a link to the position announcement on Kresge’s website, and a brief description:

Available Position: Program Officer – Environment

The Kresge Foundation’s Environment Program has an immediate opening for a program officer to work as part of a dynamic team charged with implementing strategies aimed to build communities’ resilience in the face of climate change.

About the Kresge Foundation

The Kresge Foundation is a $3 billion private, national foundation that works to improve the life circumstances of vulnerable people living in cities through grantmaking and investing in arts and culture, education, environment, health, human services, and community development efforts in Detroit and nationally. In 2013, the Board of Trustees approved 316 awards totaling $122 million. In addition, our Social Investment Practice made commitments totaling $16 million in 2013. The Kresge Foundation is located in the metropolitan Detroit community of Troy, Michigan. For more information, visit

From The Fund for the Public Interest: "We are a national non-profit organization that works to build support for progressive organizations across the country. This summer in Newton, we’re working on a campaign with Environment Massachusetts to protect our beautiful places like the Cape Cod National Seashore. Our beaches down the Cape are threatened by overdevelopment, pollution, and other short-sighted land-use decision making. We need to convince Congress to provide full funding to programs that protect our special places for generations to come, so we’re hiring staff to help us build the support it takes to stand up to Congress.
As a member of our staff, you will fundraise, build membership, and educate and activate citizens on this and other pressing issues. You will also have the opportunity to organize press conferences and build coalitions with other non-profit organizations. While on staff, you gain knowledge of pressing concerns our country is facing, learn how to effectively generate public support, and obtain a firm understanding of the political process."

We hold information sessions and interviews in our office in Newton Highlands almost every day, so give us a call at (617) 332-0216 or apply online!
