Profile

Steven F. Karel is the Vice Provost for Research at Brandeis University, where he has worked since 1996. He is responsible for the Office of Research Administration, the Office of Technology Licensing, and the Foster Lab (which cares for animal subjects used in research). At Brandeis, he has served in a variety of research computing and administration roles in the Biology Department and, from 2010 on, in the Division of Science. He received his BS in Chemical Engineering from MIT in 1981, and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Stanford in 1987. He subsequently taught in the Chemical Engineering Department at Princeton University. As Vice Provost for Research, he works with the administration and faculty to support and promote the research enterprise.
