Brandeis University's Department of Community Service, Waltham GroupHillel, Intercultural CenterDepartment of Spiritual and Religious Life/Multi-Faith Chaplaincy, Brandeis Sodexo and the Student Union are collaborating for 'Deis Donates to Disaster Relief.

Please consider donating your time to make fleece blankets, toiletry items, monetary contributions and/or blood. 

Sodexo Relief Efforts 

In response to the devastation from recent hurricanes in the southern United States, Brandeis Dining Services is offering our community the opportunity to make donations to people in need. Here’s how to get involved:  

1. Add a designated donation item to your purchase from the Hurricane Relief display at the Hoot Market. Your purchases of bottled water, paper goods, and nonperishable foods will be donated to the American Red Cross and their relief efforts in Texas and Florida. The Hoot Market is open Monday – Sunday9:30 a.m. – 2:00 a.m. in Usdan Student Center. We will accept Cash, Credit, Dining Points, and WhoCash for these items starting Thursday, 9/14/2017.

2. Brandeis Dining will contribute $1.00 for every social media follower across all of its platforms as of October 15th. Make sure to like or follow on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to donate $3.00 to the American Red Cross relief efforts. 

3. Sodexo will contribute $1 for every student and community membrer who participates in our Customer Satisfaction survey. 

Fleece Blanket Project

Thank you for all of your support making blankets.  To date our community of faculty, staff, students, and youth have come together and have made over 35 blankets. Additional blankets can be made at the following events: 

  • Social Impact Fair, Thursday, October 19th, Sherman Function Hall 
  • Kindness Day, Thursday November 10th, Shapiro Campus Center Atrium (SCC) 

Toiletry Donations to Remote Area Medical & Monetary Donations to the American Red Cross

Monetary donations will be donated to the American Red Cross. The Kraft family generously will be matching American Red Cross donations up to $1 million dollars.

Hygiene products/toiletry items will be donated to Baker-Ripley Neighborhood Center and Houston Food Bank which will be providing relief toward the areas affected by Hurricane Harvey and Irma throughout the longterm recovery process. Items needed include plastic totes, soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, travel toothbrushes, washcloths and feminine hygiene products.

We will be collecting donations at the following sites: 

  • Shapiro Campus Center (SCC) Info Booth: Monday—Friday, 9am-5pm, SCC
  • Department of Community Service: Monday—Friday, 9am-5pm, SCC
  • Hillel Lounge: Monday—Friday, 9am-5pm, Usdan
  • ICC Club meetings:Various

American Red Cross Blood Drive Donations

National emergencies reiterate the value of giving blood. This October, the Waltham Group Blood Drive will be themed around Hurricane Relief support. 

  • Waltham Group October Blood Drive: Tue., October 31 through Thu., November 2, 11am-6pm daily, Sherman Function Hall

Earthquakes in Mexico Relief Efforts: 

As rescue efforts continue after the earthquake that stuck the central part of Mexico on Tuesday, September 19th, various organizations working at the moment on the sites of collapsed buildings and aiding those affected by the earthquake are in urgent need of donations.

Here are some easy ways to make a contribution outside of Mexico:
