The Brandeis Counseling Center (BCC) offers a variety of mental health-focused programming for the campus community. Through workshops, trainings and supportive attendance at interdepartmental events, we partner with students, staff and faculty to heighten awareness of mental health and emotional wellness.
BCC offers the below evidence-based training programs. If you're looking for something more tailored, the BCC is happy to work with you to modify or create a custom workshop, training or presentation based on your needs.
To request a group training, presentation, or BCC staff attendance at one of your upcoming events, please reach out to the BCC at bcc@brandeis.edu or complete this survey.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) gives you the skills to recognize when someone is facing mental health or substance use challenges — and the confidence to be their first source of support.
More than half of Americans will be diagnosed with a mental health or substance use challenge in their life. Be ready to help a friend, family member or neighbor with our evidence-based, nationally recognized training.
What MHFA training covers:
- Common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges
- Common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges
- How to interact with a person in crisis
- How to connect a person with help
- Expanded content on trauma, substance use and self-care
Ways to Learn:
- In-Person - Learners receive their training during a 7.5-hour, Instructor-led, in-person session. This can be held over 1 full day or divided over multiple days.
- Blended - Learners complete a 2-hour, self-paced online course, and participate in a 4.5- to 5.5-hour, Instructor-led training, which can be held over Zoom or in-person.
QPR Gatekeeper training can be made available for all members of our Brandeis community. It is designed to help you understand your role in suicide prevention through data-driven, practical strategies.
QPR Training Interest Form
QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) teaches attendees to recognize the warning signs of suicide, how to offer hope to someone in need, and how to get help. Similar to CPR as an emergency medical intervention that can be administered by anyone who has been certified, QPR is designed to increase the chance of survival in the event of a crisis. BCC's trained instructors provide this one-hour training, and attendees will receive a two-year certification upon completion.
QPR is a 60-90 minute training course.
