A Message from the Chief Diversity Officer
“We persist in making our everyday reality more closely aligned with our highest ideals and deepest values.”
It is a pleasure and an honor to serve the diverse community that is Brandeis as its Chief Diversity Officer. In its short history, Brandeis has distinguished itself as a university dedicated to the highest educational ideal: Truth, even unto its innermost parts. Brandeis came into being at a time when quotas were established to prevent Jews from attending, or attaining faculty positions, at Ivy League institutions. In response, Brandeis was explicitly founded as a nonsectarian university rooted in the Jewish values of open inquiry, academic excellence, and an abiding commitment to social justice. If these values resonate with you, then I encourage you to explore further.
If you are considering Brandeis as a place to study or work, know that our campus solicits the talents, skills, and contributions of all people and proudly offers an environment that welcomes and celebrates diversity in all its forms, across identity and circumstance. We also recognize that a genuine commitment to inclusion cannot rest on its ideals. It requires ongoing reflection and self-assessment of our climate and a renewed sense of urgency in addressing the needs of the most vulnerable members of our community. Though sometimes this is an elusive goal, we persist in making our everyday reality more closely aligned with our highest ideals and deepest values.
And please don’t take my word for it … read on! On this website, you will find information and resources related to diversity, equity and inclusion, generally and specific to Brandeis. If there is something you are looking for that cannot be found here, please contact me so that we can make this online resource grow.
