Germaine Ingram, this year's 'DEIS Impact keynote speaker, uses her work to advance fairness, respect, and inclusion. Her keynote address, "The Law and the Stage, Platforms for Pursuing Social Justice," included excerpts from her performance, "Freedom Underfoot," also presented on campus.

Announcing the first cohort of ENACT Faculty Fellows, who hail from colleges and universities in or near state capitals across the United States, and will lead the national expansion of ENACT: The Educational Network for Active Civic Transformation.

Supreme Court Ruth Bader Ginsburg spoke to more than 2,500 gathered at Brandeis about Louis D. Brandeis' legacy and continued impact in the kickoff event for a celebration of the 100th anniversary of Brandeis' appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The fifth annual 'DEIS Impact Festival of Social Justice featured 47 events attended by more than 1,400 people.

Announcing ENACT: The Educational Network for Active Civic Transformation, a new national program to engage young people in state-level legislative change, made possible by Ethics Center Board member Norbert Weissberg and his wife, former Board member Judith Schneider.

The 18th cohort of Sorensen Fellows went back their home countries or to new places for their summer internships.

Speakers at “The Responsibility to Protect at 10: The Challenge of Protecting the World’s Most Vulnerable Population” examined the Responsibility to Protect or “R2P” principle, which recognizes that the international community has a role to play when sovereign states fail to protect their own populations from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.

Julian Bond, who passed away in August at age 75, visited Brandeis in March as the 2014-15 Fred and Rita Richman Distinguished Fellow in Public Life. His lecture was titled "How I Got in the Movement: A Civil Rights 'Living Legend' Tells His Story."

The new Creativity, the Arts, and Social Transformation (CAST) minor awarded grant funding last spring to LaShawn Simmons ’18, Sarah McCarty ’15 and Brontë Velez ’16.

Paul Smith, Director of the British Council USA and Cultural Counsellor at the British Embassy in Washington, D.C., spoke at a CAST reception at Brandeis. He discussed culture and conflict to argue for the centrality of culture to resolving rises around the world.

The spring and fall 2015 Ethics Center Leadership Council, aka the Center's "social justice street team," have been finding new ways to engage the Brandeis community with the Ethics Center’s resources.

The faculty committee of the minor in Creativity, the Arts and Social Transformation (CAST) has just awarded grants of $2,000 each to four members of the Brandeis faculty for research and creative projects.

Fourteen judges from 11 international courts and tribunals around the world gathered at the University of Malta for the 2015 Brandeis Institute for International Judges to discuss the theme "International Courts, Local Actors," focusing on the importance of local actors in global justice.

Rev. Gustavo Gutiérrez was awarded the sixth annual Joseph B. and Toby Gittler Prize and delivered a lecture discussing "Liberation Theology and Social Activism."

Angela Glover Blackwell, founder of PolicyLink, was appointed the inaugural Fred and Rita Richman Distinguished Fellow in Public Life at Brandeis University. Blackwell delivered a lecture on advancing economic and social equality in America.

Four students from the spring 2014 “Advocacy for Policy Change” course (LGLS 161b) received Advocacy for Policy Change Award grants to support their continued work on issues they focused on in the course.
