ENACT Advocates Day: Brandeis Students Meet With Massachusetts Legislative Advocates
January 20, 2026
At the annual ENACT Advocates Day in January, students in ENACT Director Melissa Stimell’s Brandeis University course “Advocacy for Policy Change (LGLS 161b) met with advocates from seven Massachusetts organizations: Health Care for All, Citizens for Juvenile Justice, MassNOW, Conservation Law Foundation, MIRA: Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition, Repro Equity Now, and Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless.
Each advocate discussed their issue and the related legislation being proposed at the Massachusetts State House, encouraging ENACT students to focus on the related bill in their ENACT work.
After initial presentations, student teams met with the advocates in small groups. The advocates shared their expertise on the substance of the bills and advocacy strategies.
Over the course of the spring semester these students will learn how to support state legislation and then will put that into action, meeting with legislators, legislative aides, and advocates including those from the event to work in support of the bills they choose to focus on.
