Frequently Asked Questions
We encourage you to fill out the Hire Brandeis 2020 website form, identifying ways you can help the Class of 2020. A staff member from one of the Brandeis career centers will then be in touch to help share your employment opportunities or career guidance with the Brandeis community. Job and volunteer opportunities will be posted to our online recruitment platform, Handshake. For those who’ve offered career advice and networking, the career centers will help match you to an appropriate recent grad.
Yes, definitely! We are also asking for internships, projects, volunteer opportunities and general career advice and networking, such as resume reviews or informational/mock interviews. So even if you don't have a job to offer, or if you're retired from the workforce, you can still help.
This challenge is inspired by the Class of 2020, which is entering one of the toughest job markets in recent history, but the opportunities listed in Handshake are open to all Brandeis student and alumni. The Brandeis network is here to support all alumni.
According to Glassdoor, job openings for new graduates were down 68 percent in May 2020 compared to the same time last year.
Research shows that people of color are disproportionately affected by higher unemployment rates in the United States. This initiative is an opportunity for alumni in positions of influence to help counteract this trend, which has its roots in the structural racism that runs against our values as Brandeisians. We encourage alumni mentors to be conscious of the tendency for individuals to mentor or hire those with a similar background. Consider this as an opportunity to branch out and work with young alums whose experiences may be quite different from what yours were.
We anticipate that the Hire Brandeis 2020 Challenge will last through the end of the calendar year, but our career centers always welcome learning about opportunities from our alumni, family and friends.
