3D Sculptural Heads

sculptureStudent project from FA6A
Fall 2025.

FA 6a Sculpture: Body as Source collaborated with the MakerLab in Fall 2025.

Professor Tory Fair explains the project:

We began sculpting the head through observation in the studio. Mid-process we went to the MakerLab and scanned our heads in order to print them at a one to one scale. This allowed us to compare the sculpted head with the 3D printed head. Pairing the tools of perception and hands on fabrication with the digital technologies rendered very different objects. Finally, some of the students chose to use the 3D printed heads as a starting point.

Two 3D printers on a rack.
Students used a Creality Otter Scanner to create 3D scans of their heads, which were then printed using the Makerlab's Creality K2 Plus Combo printers (fondly known as Humpty and Dumpty).
