Teaching Innovation Grants

Dear Colleagues,
Brandeis faculty are deeply dedicated teachers and the Provost’s Office, through the Center for Teaching and Learning, is very pleased to announce a new $200,000 program to support faculty Innovations in Teaching. Any Brandeis faculty member may apply for a Teaching Innovation Grant. There will be approximately 20 such grants; while the average award will be about $10,000, you may apply for as little as $500 or as much as $25,000. The grants are intended to support Advances in Pedagogy and Assessment of Student Learning
Areas of Focus:
Proposals in the following areas will receive special preference:

Interdisciplinary courses with colleagues from other departments

The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (i.e., rigorous study of how a particular educational practice affects student learning)

Addressing Race and Inequality in the Classroom
-
Experiential Learning and Teaching
-
Redesign of courses into new formats through the use of technology
All proposals should include a description of how student learning will be assessed.
What can grants pay for?
-
Course buyouts to enable team teaching or for planning time
-
Summer stipends or term-time supplements for planning innovative courses
-
Teaching Assistants
-
Equipment and Software
-
Guests (travel fees, honoraria)
-
Travel and admissions fees (e.g., for museums)
Supporting services:
Library and Technology Services, the Center for Teaching and Learning, the Experiential Learning and Teaching Office, and the Rabb School will offer a variety of instructional design and other services to help you plan your innovation. Proposals are due Friday, March 13 and should be submitted to: provost@brandeis.edu
Proposals should be completed using the attached form. Grants may run through the end of the 2015-16 academic year (June 30, 2016). Proposals will be reviewed by Dan Perlman (CTL), Karen Muncaster (Rabb School), and three Davis Teaching and Learning Fellows.
