Teaching Innovation Grants for 2018-19
Dear Colleagues,
The Provost’s Office, through the Center for Teaching and Learning, is pleased to announce the 2018 application round for Teaching Innovation Grants for Brandeis faculty. These grants are intended to promote excellence and innovation in teaching through the development of new instructional methods or materials, methods of assessing learning, or course design. Successful proposals describe a project that is innovative and includes an evaluation method to assess the impact of the innovation(s). Funding is typically between $2,000 and $10,000. This year, we have increased the funding available to faculty in order to support the implementation of the general education requirements. The request for proposals for GenEd courses will be announced in the coming weeks.

All proposals that address innovation in teaching or assessment will be considered. However this year, preference will be given to projects that address assessment.

The Center for Teaching and Learning, the Rabb School’s Instructional Design team, Library staff, staff from ITS and the Office of Experiential Learning and Teaching will offer a variety of instructional design and other services to help you plan design and implement your innovation. Any questions about this RFP should be directed to Dan Perlman or Karen Muncaster, Co-Chairs of the Teaching Innovation Grants
Proposals are due March 25, 2018
Applications for the upcoming academic year (2018-19) will be due by March 25. Funds will be released on July 1, 2018 and must be spent by June 15, 2019. Applicants are asked to provide a rationale with clear goals, a project timeline, an assessment plan, evidence of applicability to other areas and sustainability beyond one year along with a detailed budget. In order to be eligible for funding, projects must have an assessment plan that details how the project’s impact on student learning will be evaluated. Projects that require funding beyond the year of the grant will not be considered without a letter of commitment from the relevant dean or vice president.
You can access the application form on the CTL website. A committee consisting of Karen Muncaster, Dan Perlman, former grant awardees and Davis Teaching and Learning Fellows will review proposals and make their recommendation to me by mid-April.
I am very pleased to be able to support Brandeis faculty members through this program and look forward to seeing the impact of these teaching innovations on our educational programs.
Sincerely,
Lisa M. Lynch
