Fall Classes and Fall Registration

April 8, 2021

Dear Students,

It is with great excitement that we are looking forward to the Fall 2021 semester. We anticipate that the vast majority of classes will be fully in person or have a significant in-person instructional component. For large classes, we are investigating large spaces such as Levin Ballroom to accommodate as many students as possible. Some courses will continue to be offered in a remote format for pedagogical reasons and needs, including support for students who are unable to come to campus due to visa or travel restrictions.

Because of the need to plan for these important changes, the Registrar's office is now targeting late June, rather than April, for registration for returning undergraduates and graduate students in School of Arts and Sciences and in the International Business School. We anticipate having a schedule ready for your review in mid-June. New undergraduates will enroll in classes in July, as is normal. The schedules will include the modality of each course and guidelines for selecting appropriate modalities. Graduate students in the Heller School will participate in a separate enrollment process in August.

As we receive lists of fall classes from the departments, it is exciting to see popular classes return to an in-person format. It is also inspiring to see many new classes be proposed as our curriculum continues to change and evolve. When the class list comes out, we encourage you to explore departments that you may not normally consider and classes that you may not usually take.

Finally, Brandeis' academic calendar will return to a more typical semester, with classes beginning on August 26th and the last day of finals occurring on December 17th. Classes will not be in session September 6th-8th, September 16th, September 21st, September 28th, and November 24th-November 26th.

If an international student is on an F-1 visa, they should work with their academic advisor and ISSO advisor to be sure they understand what enrollment circumstances they may need to complete in order to maintain their F-1 records. If a student is facing a serious medical condition that requires them not to be on the Brandeis campus in Fall 2021, they should work with Student Accessibility Services to begin the medical documentation process.

We look forward to a robust campus experience—both inside and outside of the classroom—for the Fall 2021 semester.

Sincerely,
