New Pass Time - Fall 2022

December 9, 2021

Dear Brandeis Community,

We are writing to inform you that starting in Fall 2022, there will be a fifteen-minute pass time between classes in the School of Arts and Sciences and the International Business School. The schedule for the Heller School for Social Policy and Management and the schedule for the Rabb School of Continuing Studies will remain the same.

This decision was reached after surveying students and faculty; consulting with the Deans, Division Heads, and Program Heads; vetting the change with the Committee on Academic Standards and Policy; and consulting with both the Faculty Senate and the Student Union.

Prior to COVID-19, the pass time was ten minutes, as it will be for the coming semester Spring 2022. Students and faculty have both asked for a longer break between classes. In Fall 2020, Spring 2021, and Fall 2021, the pass time has been 30 minutes. The longer pass time resulted in fewer blocks for instruction, and as a result, more scheduling conflicts between courses were created for students.

Please refer to the posted general block schedule for Fall 2022 to review the details of the new block system, as well as the block schedule for Spring 2022.

We thank the community for their input on this important change, and we wish everyone a safe, productive, and healthy end to the Fall 2021 semester.

Sincerely,

Carol Fierke, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs

Dorothy Hodgson, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences

Wendy Cadge, Dean of the Graduate School or Arts and Sciences

Kathryn Graddy, Dean of the Brandeis International Business School

David Weil, Dean of the Heller School for Social Policy and Management

Lynne Rosansky, Vice President of the Rabb School
