Dear Members of the Brandeis Community,
I am delighted to announce that Harleen Singh has been appointed as Senior Associate Provost for Faculty and Global Affairs, filling an important role in the Office of the Provost for supporting faculty, creating equitable policies across Brandeis University, and enhancing our international partnerships.
As Senior Associate Provost for Faculty and Global Affairs, Harleen will provide leadership to support all faculty throughout the arc of their careers. She will act as a key representative on important faculty issues including shared governance, tenure and promotion policies, faculty work/life balance, and recruitment and retention of a diverse faculty, and all aspects of faculty professional development. This work will be carried out in partnership with the Deans, Associate Deans, Division Heads, Program Heads, the Faculty Senate, and other University leadership. In Global Affairs, Harleen will work with the schools and administrative units to frame a cohesive international approach on academic and administrative partnerships outside the United States.
Harleen has served in various roles at Brandeis, most recently as Director of the Women’s Studies Research Center. She holds a Ph.D. in Literature from the University of California, San Diego and has been a faculty member at Brandeis since 2005. Harleen was the first faculty member appointed with a tenure line in the Women’s Studies Program; she founded and chaired the South Asian Studies Program along with Sarah Lamb from 2007-2017; she has served on the Senate and as a Faculty Representative to the Board of Trustees since 2018, and chaired and served on key university search committees. Her contributions to the Division of Humanities, her deep knowledge of Brandeis, and her vision for strengthening faculty policies and global outreach made her an outstanding candidate for this position.
Harleen begins her 75% position in the Provost Office on July 1, 2022.
Please join me in welcoming Harleen into her new role.
