Update on Dean of Arts & Sciences Search

October 25, 2022

Dear Brandeis Community,

I am pleased to announce the imminent launch of the search for the next Dean of Arts and Sciences.  A search committee has been formed and will be chaired by Professors Isaac Krauss (CHEM) and Harleen Singh (GRALL, WGS).  In addition, the committee will include the following: A&S faculty Sheida Soleimani (FA), Eugene Sheppard (NEJS), Piali Sengupta (BIOL), Linda Bui (ECON, IBS), Sara Shostak (SOC, HSSP), Rebecca Torrey (MATH); and interim Heller Dean, Maria Madison; Alumni representative, Lewis Brooks; Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Lee Bitsóí; and graduate student representative, Víkko Suárez.  An undergraduate advisory committee, with representatives from student government and other key stakeholders, will be formed to meet candidates and provide feedback during the search process.

We have hired an external search firm, Spencer Stuart, to assist the search committee, and the committee will have its first meeting with the firm next week.  The firm will also meet with other individuals and groups to hear their thoughts on opportunities and challenges that will face the next Dean, and on the characteristics that they are hoping for in the next Dean.

In the meantime, if there are candidates that you think would be particularly well suited for this position, I would encourage you to send a note to the chairs of the search committee:

Harleen Singh (harleen@brandeis.edu) and Isaac Krauss (kraussi@brandeis.edu).

Sincerely,

Carol Fierke
Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
