Call for Nominations: Teach-In Planning Committee
January 10, 2024
Dear Brandeis Community:
We are pleased to welcome you back to campus after what we hope was a restorative winter break for all.
We are writing now to follow up on the day-long Teach-In we held at the end of last semester. As we noted in our communications leading up to that event, we regarded that day as a first – and necessary – step in what would need to be an extended, iterative process designed to generate informed, thoughtful conversation, opportunities for learning about deeper contexts for recent world events, and authentic understanding of the deeply held perspectives, grounded in lived experiences, that have both joined and divided so many of us.
For reasons of logistics and time constraints, the December 5th Teach-In was primarily planned by senior leadership. We believe that the next steps must emerge from a more collaborative and inclusive process. To that end, we are calling for nominations (and/or self-nominations) to serve on an 8-12 person committee that will include staff, undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty, invited to lead us in developing programming for the Spring ‘24 semester (and potentially beyond).
If you are interested in serving on this committee, or would like to nominate another community member, please send names and contact information to das@brandeis.edu no later than Wednesday, January 17, 2024. We will invite a representative committee from these nominations before the end of the month so that planning can get underway as soon as possible.
Thanks for your consideration and we look forward to working together to continue to (re)build a community grounded in mutual respect, understanding, and learning.
Sincerely,
Carmen Aguilar, Vice President, Rabb School of Continuing Studies
Carol Fierke, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
Charles Golden, Interim Dean, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences
Katy Graddy, Dean, International Business School
Maria Madison, Interim Dean, Heller School for Social Policy and Management
Jeffrey Shoulson, Dean, School of Arts and Sciences
