Student Commencement Speakers Selection Process

Dear Faculty and Staff,

We are excited to announce the upcoming launch of this year’s competition for The Richard Kaufman ’58 Memorial Prize for Leadership and Academic Excellence, which will select and honor the students who will speak at our annual Commencement ceremony.

Each year, one undergraduate and one graduate student are selected to address our community during this special event. Selected students will reflect the distinctive qualities of the graduating class, and demonstrate academic excellence, leadership in their activities, and a commitment to improving the world around them.

Faculty and staff will soon have the opportunity to nominate deserving students for this award. Students will also be able to nominate themselves and other students to be considered for this award. The nomination forms will open on Monday, November 25 at 9am (ET) and remain open until 5pm on Wednesday, December 18. A follow-up message will be sent with links to the forms.

The undergraduate and graduate students ultimately selected to speak at Commencement will each receive a cash prize for their accomplishments. The undergraduate selection committee will be chaired by Vinodini Murugesan, Executive Director of English Language Programs, and the graduate selection committee will be chaired by Matthew Sheehy, University Librarian.

We look forward to receiving your nominations in the coming weeks.

Best regards,

Carol Fierke, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
