Administrative News: Joel Christensen to become Provost of CUNY Graduate Center
Dear Colleagues,
I am writing to share that Joel Christensen, Professor and Senior Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs, has been named Provost of the CUNY Graduate Center. He begins his new role on August 18. Please join me in congratulating Joel on this significant appointment.
Joel has left a lasting mark on Brandeis as a teacher, researcher and administrator, and he will be missed. Since joining the Brandeis faculty in 2016, he has served as Chair of the Department of Classical Studies, Chair of the Faculty Senate, and for three years as Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs in the School of Arts and Sciences before taking on his current role as Senior Associate Provost in 2024, where he led the successful organization of a university-wide faculty affairs office. Most recently, Joel has been a partner to President Levine and me in support of the university restructuring.
I am grateful to Joel for his service and leadership at Brandeis, and wish him well in this next chapter. Joel’s last day in the office at Brandeis will be July 31. I will work with the Faculty Affairs team to ensure continuity of service and leadership following Joel’s departure.
Sincerely,
Carol A. Fierke, Ph.D. '84
Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
