Do you want to share your passion for science with younger generations? WiSI has two outreach programs you may want to join!

Coffee Counsel

Coffee Counsel is an outreach program between Brandeis Division of Science graduate and undergraduate students. WiSI and Brandeis’ undergraduate women in science counterpart BeWiSE have joined together to facilitate communication between the two student populations. Each Coffee Counsel event is centered around a specific topic requested by science undergrads (REU applications, applying to labs, internships and jobs). WiSI recruits grad student volunteers and/or hosts The Sci Comm Lab to provide workshops and mentorship to the undergrads each session. Coffee Counsel occurs monthly, with exceptions for holidays and undergrad exam weeks. Coffee and refreshments are provided at each event.

In the Fall of 2019 WiSI will pilot a program called SciSpaces, a collaboration with educators at Brandeis to promote equitability in STEM. SciSpaces will target freshman at Brandeis who are interested in science but lack knowledge of what it means to work as a researcher. The program aims to offer students a realistic picture of what working in a lab is like. Please contact Katie Kimbrell if you are interested in becoming a SciSpaces mentor.
